Over-the-patient Delivery
Since over-the-patient delivery can fit in small operatories, and can be sold as a package, it is commonly the most frequently sold style by equipment manufacturers. A major drawback with the over-the-patient style is that it can interfere with patient comfort, raise patient anxiety and may limit integration of new technologies due to size constraints.
Recommended Room Size: 8’ – 12’ wide by 9’ – 12’ deep.
Advantages
- Requires minimum size treatment room
- Minimal operating movement
Considerations
- Instruments in front of patient’s eyes (can cause anxiety)
- Handpiece tubings may drag on patient’s chest
- May cause patient to feel trapped
- Patient entry/egress to chair can be restricted
- May limit instrument integration
- Unit may interfere with microscope placement
